The Y officially reopened on May 26th. The community and our past Y members will have the opportunity to reinstate their membership beginning on June 1st.
As we reopen our doors, please be assured that your safety is our number one priority. We’re following guidelines from health experts, local officials and the Rock County Dashboard to ensure that our facilities meet the highest standards for hygiene and safety.
We have modified our policies and services to facilitate safe physical and social distancing practices and plan to reopen our facility with a 3-phased approach.
WHAT WILL THE Y LOOK LIKE WHEN WE REOPEN?
As shared in previous communications, when the Y reopens, things will be different.
Here are some of the changes to expect during phase 1 of our reopening:
Monday-Friday 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
The support for the Y and our work in the community has been simply amazing. When we have a moment to reflect, we will look back with a sense of pride for the way the Y quickly responded to the critical needs in the community, and a sense of deep gratitude for those members and donors who supported us. We are SO excited to welcome you back!
NEW SAFETY PROTOCOLS
We have several new guidelines. Our hope in sharing these guidelines is to earn your confidence that we are proceeding with caution and abiding by all local, state and national health guidelines. We have been working very hard on our new protocols, revising the layout and traffic patterns of our facilities, and increasing our cleaning and sanitizing regimen.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What will be required of members while using the facilities?
Maintain a distance of at least 6 feet from other members and staff that are not from the same household group.
We are encouraging members and staff to wear them in common areas, but it is NOT required at this time.
Wash your hands before and after your activities. If it is not possible to wash your hands, use hand sanitizer.
If you have been contacted by the Department of Health to notify you of exposure to COVID-19, we thank you for not using the Y until 14 days after your exposure.
If you or anyone in your household are showing symptoms of fever, cough, shortness of breath or otherwise are not feeling well. Please refrain from using the Y until fever free for 72 hours.
Wipe down each piece of equipment before and after you use it, use a fresh paper towel each time and dispose of the towels in the garbage.
Limit the items and equipment you touch to only that which you will use.
If you have the urge to cough or sneeze, put on your face covering (if not wearing) and cover your nose, mouth and mask with a napkin or tissue and dispose of it in the garbage. Wash your hands thoroughly before returning to your activity.
We encourage members to come dressed for their activity. Please leave gym bags at home.
Thank you for your cooperation. We want to keep our doors open for as many members as possible. Doing so means taking safety seriously. Any member who fails to comply with personal safety and social distancing policies may be asked to leave.
I am not a current member, why do I need to wait until June 1st?
We are launching a soft opening on May 26th for current members. We have had more than 700 members hold or cancel their membership. To allow us time to make sure all of our systems are up and running, we are not opening to the community until June 1st. In addition, this allows us to say thank you to members that were able to stay with us.
How can I rejoin?
We have made this easy!
You can rejoin online by filling out the paperwork and emailing it in, by phone or in person starting June 1st. As always, you can reach out to the Y at firstname.lastname@example.org. When you are ready, we will be here to welcome you back to the Y.
What areas/programs are not available?
In Phase 1 and with consistent review of State and local guidelines:
What will be available?
Reservations will be required. Individual play or same household play only.
Will I need to make a reservation? Yes! We are working on our online reservation system and hope to have it up and running as soon as possible. Please check back for updates.
Our cardio areas will be first come, first serve, with the expectation members will provide adequate distance from others. Please be patient and know that these protocols have been put in place for your safety and to accommodate as many members as possible each day.
When will you offer Personal Training?
We will be offering Personal Training. Our staff will be required to wear a mask if requested by the participant.
When will you offer Child Watch?
We are planning to offer Child Watch later in June and provide this service at no cost for family memberships with time limits by reservation. Using reservations will ensure small group sizes for the safety of our littlest members.
Will I be able to bring guests into the Y?
Facility use will only be for YMCA of Norther Rock County members during our initial phases of re-opening. The Y will be unable to honor guest passes or sell day passes.
Can I utilize my Nationwide membership?
Our Nationwide membership access is currently suspended. We are also encouraging our members to call before they visit another Y, as other Ys in the region likely have similar policies.
Are my children allowed in the facility?
Within Phase 1, youth up to 13 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
When will the Y go back to their regular hours and services?
The answer to this question is truly unknown. We hope we can expand hours over the summer assuming our community continues to see a low spread of the virus. Increasing hours, staff and services will be added as use of the Y increases and resources allow.
Why are the locker rooms closed?
The Y is following guidelines for re-opening as directed by our local health department. In our early phases of opening the Y, locker rooms will be closed. We will offer the co-ed locker room, for pool participants, with special cleaning protocols.
Why is there no towel service?
The Y has had to pivot our resources to procure additional and costly disinfectants, sanitizers and supplies to keep our members and staff safe. The handling of dirty towels and laundry is also of high concern given the significant contagiousness of COVID-19. The Y has suspended towel service, and coffee service indefinitely. We appreciate your understanding as we continue to navigate reopening.
Where do I put my personal belongings?
Since locker rooms are closed, we are encouraging members to bring only what is necessary with them into the Y and to come dress for their activity. We are discouraging gym bags.
Will you be offering child care?
YES for ages 3-12! Full Day Preschool is available in Milton and Janesville. In addition, Day Camp starts June 1st at both locations.
